Scouting: Not Just a Club, but a Family

Posted on September 17, 2015 on CubScouts.org

Meet Becky. Her son just crossed over from Cub Scouts to Boy Scouts, and is about to embark on a new journey with many of his friends along the way, including his mother and sister.

According to Becky, Scouting has really impacted her whole family. Of course it’s been a great way for her son to make new friends and have valuable, fun experiences, but perhaps surprisingly, Becky has found Scouting to be a place where she has found new friends, support, and, as she says, a family.

“I have made friends for life. I know it’s not just for him but it’s for the whole family.”

Listen to Becky’s truly touching story as she shares how being a part of Scouting is like feeling part of a network where she can lean on the Scouting family to help.

For this single mom and her daughter, being a part of the Scouting family with their son and little brother has been a way to have fun, go places, and build a system of support for themselves as well as for their Cub Scout. As as we saw in the video, it’s also about having someone to call during those middle-of-the-night worries.

As Becky says, “It’s just not a club, it’s family, it grows into a family.”

We couldn’t agree more with that beautiful sentiment, Becky. Scouting is not just a club, but a family. And to all those who are in every kind of family, we want to welcome you to the Scouting family. Come see what it’s all about at BeAScout.org, or click the banner below.
